Musician's Interlude

Notes on paper
Dancing an Irish jig
From side to side
Play for me sweet mystery

Do you lead or shall I
Right foot five-chord
Miles may finger again
Or bang his tribal sticks

You are indiscriminant
A historical slut of life
To offer such rich concubines
Either way you collect such fees

Cleanse my body with sound
I’ll let you save me
My master of silent time
My first faceless lover

You beguile me
Dance notes, dance
Jimmy plucks a ballad
Bring fire from his reign

Such power to control
Which of us can really win
With such slave drivers
I’ll flee again and again

Be merciful sweet music
Let me smile, laugh and cry
I’ll wrap your notes around me
Play, dance, life and then die
